Burrow Heavenly home in the hills
People who visit Villa El Bosque for the first time are genuinely surprised when told it was built 23 years ago. "But it's just like new," is the common observation. For owners Philip and Wendy Burrows, however, there's nothing surprising about these first impressions. The villa was constructed in an elegantly simple style - which means it is easy to maintain (no trouble giving it a regular coat of paint, for example).
Located in a lush-green setting in the mountains above Marbella (El Madroñal), this stylish yet homely villa was designed by Aubrey David - considered one of the doyens of traditional Andalucian architecture. A highly creative couple themselves, the Burrows shared David's perspective on how they wanted their new home to take shape - with a special focus on space, light and intimacy, while also respecting the natural contours of the land and the existing vegetation.
Set on a 2,350-metre plot amidst attractively tended gardens with mature cork oaks and pine trees, the villa is decorated in a "modern rustic country style", with hand-made floor tiles throughout, vaulted beamed ceilings and sun-drenched terraces. Accommodation is arranged over three floors, comprising spacious lounge, separate dining room, master bedroom with studio, two additional bedrooms, two bathrooms, guest cloakroom and fully-fitted kitchen. Other features include a swimming pool and driveway for four cars.
With so much of themselves, and their grown-up family, in the home, Philip and Wendy are obviously reluctant to sell Villa El Bosque, but they are currently renovating a townhouse in Ronda and planning to move away from the coast.
