She first came to prominence in the mid-‘90s as the singer with electro-dance-pop duo MOLOKO who are best known for their song The Time Is Now, which reached number two in the UK single charts in 2001. She went solo in 2004 and her best-selling song to date came last year with Let Me Know (a collaboration with GROOVE ARMADA), a track from her album Overpowered.There are also two gigs at the Cervantes next month: the New York-based DJ ANDY BUTLER’s project HERCULES AND LOVE AFFAIR on the 9th; and UK indie rockers STEREOLAB on the 24

th birthday”.MADONNA has been upsetting the Vatican again; at a recent concert in Rome she dedicated Like A Virgin to THE POPE. The singer, who comes from an Italian-Catholic family, was condemned by the Vatican in 1989 for her Like A Prayer video, which featured burning crosses and the singer seducing a black Jesus. Then, while playing in Rome two years ago, she staged a mock crucifixion which caused the Church to accuse her of blasphemy.The new OASIS collection Dig Out Your Soul is out on the 6
th and the second single from the album, the ballad I’m Outta Time, will follow soon – the first single, the excellent The Shock Of The Lightning, was released on 29 September. Also NOEL may be trying his hand at writing TV sitcoms with comedian RUSSELL BRAND, and he has said he would like to pen the next JAMES BOND theme.Two more legends passed away last month… RICHARD WRIGHT, who was a founder member of PINK FLOYD, died on 15 September aged 65, following a short battle with cancer. He was the keyboard player on such famous albums as Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall but was forced to resign from the band halfway through that recording after falling out with the then band main man, ROGER WATERS. NORMAN WHITFIELD, the Tamla Motown producer and songwriter in the label’s 1960s halcyon days, died one day later, also aged 65, after suffering from diabetes and other illnesses. He wrote and produced most of THE TEMPTATIONS’ hits and was on the sliders for one of the label’s best selling singles, MARVIN GAYE’s I Heard It Through The Grapevine.Bad news for FOO FIGHTERS fans – DAVE GROHL and the rest of the band are gonna take a “long break” from music and have warned fans not to expect a new album for a few years. He said, “We play in the UK every year, so I think it's time to take a break and come back over when people really miss us.” Meanwhile, in his new book DANNY GOLDBERG, the ex manager of the above-mentioned’s former band NIRVANA, has blamed COURTNEY LOVE for the demise of the group, saying she became the “mouthpiece” for her late husband KURT COBAIN and contributed to his drug addiction. I wonder if she will reply on her MySpace page? One blog she has put on there – she’s looking for a “non-thieving, non-freaky” house cleaner who is also interested in working on the planned biopic about her late husband. And surprisingly she swapped the infamous dress that KURT wore on stage at the 1992 Reading Festival for the one ANJELICA HUSTON donned in the 1991 Addams Family movie so daughter FRANCES BEAN could wear it for her recent 16th birthday party.Two of the biggest mouths in the music biz went head to head last month – ELTON JOHN and LILY ALLEN. Apparently he made an ironic comment about her drinking habits as they were on stage co-presenting the GQ Men of the Year Awards in London. It kicked off when she said, “And now to the most important part of the night”, to which he replied, “What? Are you going to have another drink?” She made a comment about his age – his answer: “I could still snort you under the table”. Then she told him to go forth and multiply – wouldn’t you just loved to have seen that?Did you hear about MICHAEL JACKSON? He honestly believes if you peel the skin off Kentucky Fried Chicken it makes it organic – really! (COLUMNA) KINGS OF LEON singer and writer CALEB FOLLOWILL said the band nearly didn’t release last month’s UK singles chart topper Sex On Fire because they thought it was “terrible” – and so say all of us! The gorgeous JOSS STONE, who has taken time off recording to portray Anne of Cleves for the next BBC TV series of The Tudors, has said she really enjoys acting and may consider a career turn. Last month’s Mercury Prize winners ELBOW will follow up their winning album, The Seldom Seen Kid, with a collection of children’s songs after being inspired by their own offspring. What a difference a year makes – last September at the US MTV Video Music Awards BRITNEY SPEARS made a shambles of a comeback after a social meltdown of a summer. This year she introduced the show, appearing calm and relaxed, and collected three awards for her Piece of Me video. She also announced she will release her new album, on 2 December, the date of her 27
th birthday. In addition, there is also talk that she may go into the studio with an ex-boyfriend, JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE. An extraterrestrial “expert” believes that ROBBIE WILLIAMS may soon be contacted by aliens – why, do they want him to sing for them? Maybe in his gorilla suit! Obviously they haven’t heard his last offering, 2006’s Rudebox album. Or do they want to hear Arizona, a song he recently wrote about alien abduction?
