Motoring in Spain - Pershing 90
Pershing 90 Aggressive, captivating...revolutionar
Last year it was the Pershing 115 flagship - now the Italian yacht builder has unveiled its new "mega-yacht", the Pershing 90. Designed by Fulvio De Simoni and the Pershing and Ferretti Group Engineering teams, the craft is innovative both in terms of design and specifications, "combining remarkable size with perfect seaworthiness, speed with comfort, and space optimisation with careful attention to detail and accessories".
The superstructure based on that of the Pershing 115 has passed through several design stages to adapt it to this new size. On the upper level the solarium is an intentionally private area, a kind of fly deck with large sun cushion and comfortable sofa facing forward, even when cruising. Other features in common with the 115 include three vertical windows on each side to, for example, fill the master cabin with diffused light; while the position of the sunbed and dinette in the bows has been swapped around so the former is more accessible and surrounded by a walkway that communicates directly with the dinette, thus improving the whole area's comfort levels. Another spacious area is the cockpit, furnished with a sofa, large table and other furniture containing an icemaker and barbecue. With the walkways running down the sides of the boat, the interiors can be accessed from either the bow or the stern.
A garage for storing a tender and jet ski is located over the engine room, the hangar opening has been designed to be completely separate from the cockpit, in order not to disturb guests on the solarium, and a foldaway platform is included for launching and stowing water "toys".
In line with the new design concept introduced on the latest models, the upper salon has plenty of room for daytime activities. The salon is reached through a sliding glass door in the cockpit and features an attractive open-space design dominated by "discreet, stylish luxury and a harmony of shapes and colours".
The "conversation area" is furnished with a pale leather C-shaped sofa, wenge coffee table and 42" plasma screen TV. The dining area, with a table designed to seat 10 people, is located further towards the bow; and the helm station is situated centrally to offer an optimum field of vision when cruising or manoeuvering.
For the first Pershing 90 unit, the furnishings are in precious open-pore varnished oak with wenge profiles and tops; and the ceilings are covered in Mindanao - a new, light and bright, washable fabric that reflects and enhances light throughout the boat. As far as performance is concerned, two powerful MTU 2400 hp engines coupled with new Arneson (ASD 16L) drives have been fitted. The Pershing 90's maximum speed is 46 knots, with a cruising speed of approximately 38 knots.
