Motoring in Spain - SL72! And again, it is a Sanlorenzo!

SL72! And again, it is a Sanlorenzo!

Words by 01/08/2006

It is with the occasion of the Palma Boat Show 2006 that Sanlorenzo presents its new SL72. The location has not been chosen by chance, but since last year Sanlorenzo has opened its official shipyard office and direct after sales branch on Mallorca: Sanlorenzo Baleari under the management of Mr. Kurt Lehmann.

Mr. Lehmann has been in the yachting industry for many years and with his professional and knowledgeable attitude has achieved highest esteem and credibility among German and international yacht owners (it is common knowledge that the Balearics is one of the best navigational areas) whom have chosen to navigate in the Balearics, where the sun shines almost throughout the year.

For the début performance of one of the most prestigious Italian brands in the yachting industry with a select company invited to the event, they have presented the new SL72 in Puerto Portals, where Sanlorenzo Baleari has its premises. At the end of the exquisite dinner, in a unforgettable and emotional choreography of lights and live music, the SL72 has appeared in its true beauty.

A grand classic, the new SL72 has been created in the tradition of a brand that represents since 50 years the protagonist of exclusive “custom built” yachting, reserved for those owners who do not need to be recognized at all cost, but rather like to keep their privacy.

At this event Mr. Marco Viti, managing director of the Sanlorenzo Ameglia Division, representing the headquarters, has stated that with the launching of the new SL72, the shipyard continues with the evolution that began 3 years ago with the “birth” of the SL108, which defines a delicate re-styling of the exterior design on the complete Sanlorenzo range.

This new project, as a matter of fact, is a purification of style, where with just the slightest touch Sanlorenzo has achieved to update its look and volume in perfect accordance with the well-known classical elegance, keeping its familiar elements consolidated in time.

The update of the external lay-out of this full length 22 m is strongly visible in the big glued windows, the softening of the fly bridge lines, the elimination of the lateral air intakes and of the marine blue stripes. This new image gives the SL72 a proper and smart look.

Quality, elegance and safety define the new SL72, achieving a product with a timeless look, exclusivity and of great reliability.

Coming on board, we can immediately appreciate that the aft deck is properly covered by the new lines of the fly bridge, either to find a cool shadowy place to enjoy or escape from a rare rainy day. The spacious after deck with its big teak table and sofa for 3 and 5 foldable chairs is perfect for having a lovely dinner.

The bulwark, with a stainless steel handrail embedded in teak, leads to a sunbathing area in the bow.

Arriving to the fly bridge, the space offers the owner quite a few possibilities: a sun bed in sky next to the helm station en-plein-air; the comfortable couch in L shape with an extendable table with optimal entertaining facilities. The aft part of the fly bridge is occupied by the 3,80 m tender, 2 life rafts for 8 persons each and the electro-hydraulic crane with a lifting power of 600 kg. In the standard equipment there is a grill, fridge and washbasin.

As for the interior design, the yacht is custom built completely in concept with the shipyard’s guideline. Sanlorenzo, in fact, builds each and every yacht to the personal specification of the client. The interior benefits of spaciousness and of highest quality workmanship.

To access the salon, one goes through the glass and stainless steel door on the left side, leaving a glass wall behind the aft deck settee on the right side. The space fanning out in the salon gives the feeling of going through an open gangway, with the impression of seeing throughout the yacht without any obstacles.

The salon is a combination of 2 and 3 seater sofas, from where it is comfortable to watch the 27” plasma screen situated on the left side of the yacht. The salon is divided by a step from the spacious dinette for 8, illuminated by fibre optical lights. Adjacent to the dinette is the galley with Schiffini furniture, with ceramiflex floor and tops in granite. The galley has a side door to the bulwark and also both to the dinette and helm station table.

The helm station is made in the best modern technology and design with the highest quality workmanship. The console is in finest leather and the instrument panels are in varnished aluminium for an elegant composition and easy usability. To the left from the helm station is the staircase to the cabins below deck.

The access to the cabins below deck is a comfortable staircase, with walls covered in leather, leading down to a spacious corridor where the scent of the wood seduces into one of the 4 cabins, a version requested by the owner, although the shipyard advises for the 3 cabin version instead for even more space in the cabins and bathrooms. In order to understand the highest quality and perfect workmanship, one has to touch and feel the woodwork and the fabrics. The rich core of the American oak, selected from one tree only, is cut and assembled to match the following of the vain and shade as only Sanlorenzo can offer.

The 2 twin cabins are situated on the port and starboard side of the yacht, with own head and shower. The VIP cabin is in the bow, with a spacious bathroom. Descending on a few stairs one arrives in the Master cabin, which is amidships and spread over the full beam of the yacht, and furnished with a 2 seater sofa in leather. The matching light colours and leather contribute to a very clean and pleasant atmosphere, with soft lights inundating the cabin from the lacquered ceiling. A spacious walk-in-closet and the master bathroom are on the engine room wall, thus insulating the Master cabin completely from the noise. The right choice of Travertino Navona marble, woodwork and stainless steel give the Master cabin a refined and exclusive look.

Built in GRP with a plaining hull in longitudinal structure, with traversed bulk head, the SL72 is equipped with 2 MTU engines á 1380 Hp, with a cruising speed of 26 knots and a maximum speed of 30 knots. The range is 400 nm with a fuel capacity of 5000 l of diesel. The clients have the choice to have MTU 1500 Hp, which will only slightly change the performance.

For those who could not have the possibility to be present in Palma, the SL 72 will be presented also during the following Boat Shows: from Cannes to Genova, where also the SL62 will have her world première.

Congratulations to Sanlorenzo for being able to stay faithful to the origins of its success.
