SUMMER IN A BOTTLE

To keep you smelling sweet all season, we have rounded up some of the top male and female fragrances. Also thrown into the mix are a few products to help you make the best of the summer. With this sudden rise in temperature it is hard to stay effortlessly chic (my sweaty nose is ruining my glamorous look) so I will give you a few of my handy hints… Keep your eye gel in the fridge: the coolness is refreshing and de-puffing at the same time. Switch to a tinted moisturiser as foundation will look too cakey in this heat; only add concealer where you need it.  Hair accessories are all the rage, so you can put your hair up (helps you keep cool) and decorate your up-do to your heart’s content. Remember though, we do not want to look like a Christmas decoration.

Summer cocktail

To get everyone in that summer mood Givenchy have released limited editions of Very Irresistible: Very Irresistible Summer Cocktail for women and Very Irresistible Fresh Attitude Summer Cocktail for men. “Two cocktails, both with the same intensely icy coolness.”Liv Tyler (don’t you just love her) is fronting the women’s campaign. As for the scent itself they have infused the original rose scents from the Very Irresistible Givenchy fragrance while adding a new twist of crushed mint leaves. For the men they have concocted a mixture of star anise, mint leaf, peppermint, lavender, grand vert basil and green cardamon. The bottles will definitely add a “pop” of colour to your bathroom shelves.

Deadly poison

The iconic Poison by Christian Dior reminds me of my childhood: whenever my father used to go away for work, he would always bring my mother back the largest bottle he could find. Twenty-three years later they are bringing out their fifth edition Midnight Poison. Eva Green (Casino Royale) is the current face of the perfume, which features notes of mandarin orange, bergamot, black rose, patchouli, amber and French vanilla. She says, "It's quite fresh compared to the other Poisons – it's younger, fresher, like the commercial." The dark and sultry bottle is perfect for this intense perfume.

Become a legend

The best selling fragrance Chrome for men by Azzaro, part of the Clarins group, has unveiled its more contemporary brother Chrome Legend. Designed by Christophe Reynaud and Olivier Pescheux, Givaudan apparently have continued “the story between generations of men”.The notes include tea, green apple, bitter orange, musk, moss, sea spray, cedar, vetiver, amber and tonka bean, while the bottle has been influenced by the world of boating. Ships ahoy!

The ultimate revitaliser

Guerlain have brought out a new edition of one of their cult products and named it Super Aqua-serum Optimum Hydration Revitaliser Desert Rose Flower Complex (wow, that is a mouth-full; try saying that three times). It offers long-lasting moisture, while also revitalising the skin – great after a day at the beach. With daily use your skin will glow and appear more supple, and fine lines will diminish. I recommend applying this under your moisturiser as it makes the upper layer work harder.

Body detox

The Elemis Body Sculpting System works together to combat cellulite and detox your body. The Body Sculpting Lipo-Refining Serum inhibits fat storage and breaks down fatty deposits while the Body Sculpting Firming Cream stimulates lymphatic drainage, smoothes, tones and redefines contours. I love the fact that they don’t use caffeine in their products, as this is actually a toxin. Instead you can find powerful ingredients like bitter orange petal and marine extracts. Anything that can beat the bumps gets a thumbs up from me.

TIP: Always follow the massage instructions on any cellulite cream as it significantly boosts the effect.

Male protection

The male cosmetic industry is booming and its latest offering is Clarins UV Protection Oil Free protection SPF 20 Daily Skin Care for men. Created for daily use, it protects from harmful UVB rays and pollution. The oil-free option is a bonus for those who suffer from breakouts. Key ingredients such as Bison Grass, Chinese Galanga and Purslane boost hydration and plump the skin. Other great aspects are its resistance to moisture and perspiration, stopping the product running into your eyes. Just what you need in this hot climate. TIP: Many men suffer from outbreaks on their arms and backs. To combat this, exfoliate twice a week and only use a moisturiser on the areas when necessary.
