Summer Breeze

Words by Nicola McGeorge 10/05/2008

TOP NEW RANGES, TREATMENTS AND NEWS FROM THE WORLD OF MAKEUP, SKINCARE AND FRAGRANCE

COMPILED BY NICOLA McGEORGE SUMMER BREEZE

To coincide with this month’s fashion special, I thought, as well as taking you through the latest products, I should also give you a little insight into this summer’s beauty trends. The perm is back (I screamed at first) but this time, thank God, it is called the 24-hour perm. Woo hoo, just pull out your tongs and join Kate Moss and her curly loving crew. Dove grey is the colour of choice for your nails; bright lipsticks, as neon as you can take; oh, and the super nude. Hours of makeup to look like you are wearing none. It’s a hard life being a woman.

THOSE WITH A SENSITIVE SOUL

Bikini time is fast approaching so it’s time to get our skin in tip top condition. Start with a great exfoliator and get rid of all those dead skin cells. Clinique’s Sparkle Skin Body Exfoliator whisks away surface dryness, and dullness, recharging the skin while leaving a buffed glow. This tingling and exhilarating body exfoliator gets you feeling re-energised and ready to go.Follow up with some much-needed moisturiser. Clinique’s Deep Comfort Body Moisturiser is a richly whipped body cream that lets skin luxuriate in comforting moisture. This lush body lotion is well worth a try by those seeking a pleasantly scented, moisturising product for light to moderately dry sensitive skin. This luxury cream absorbs quickly into the skin without leaving residue, and contains Vitamin E and anti-irritant ingredients to protect skin. Now you are ready to hit the beach. Don’t forget the sun cream.

TIP: For a salon style hair treatment, pop down to your local gym, slather on a hair mask (I recommend Kerastase Nutritive Masquintense) and sit in the steam room. Rinse to reveal super, soft, shiny hair.

It’s Just So RefreshingEstée Lauder Pure White Linen Light Breeze fragrance is a sparkling citrus floral variation on 2006's Pure White Linen. The tag line is a quote from spokeswoman Gwyneth Paltrow: "Some days you relive forever." This designer fragrance is a blend of flowery aromas and is recommended for daytime wear. It is a refreshing, sparkling fragrance with wet citrus, and vibrant with colourful florals and sheer woods.  his scent lingers in your senses for hours, perfect for summer.

The All-In-One

With the holiday season coming up, we ladies really need space-saving products. Clinique’sTravel retailing “Complete Colour” set is the answer to your prayers… containing a perfect combination of four creamy intense colour surge eye shadows in shades such as “Daybreak”, four gorgeous butter shine lipsticks and a blush in “Iced Lotus”. The sleek compact comes complete with three brushes so you can achieve a professional finish.

Experience The Moringa Tree

The Body Shop have just brought out their new Moringa range which also includes a version of their fabulous body butters. This all-over body cream contains community trade ingredients including cocoa butter made from cocoa beans from Ghana, Brazil nut oil, sesame oil from Nicaragua, and organic honey from Zambia. Great for those of us marching the eco path. The Moringa tree is native to northern India and many parts of Africa, and has been used for its health and beauty benefits for more than 4,000 years. The high levels of oleic acid (a fatty acid in the moringa seed oil) helps restore the skin's moisture levels.

Thou Shalt Covet

We all know that Sarah Jessica Parker rocks the fashion world, but can she do the same in the land of perfumery? She is following up her best selling “Lovely” with “Covet”, which promises to reveal her vixen side. The perfume was created by perfume consultant Ann Gottlieb and perfumier Frank Volkl of Firmenich. Covet has top notes of wet greens, geranium leaves, Sicilian lemon, lavender and chocolate; a heart of honeysuckle, magnolia and muguet; and a dry down of musk, vetiver, bois de cashmere, teakwood and amber. Covert is described as a classic feminine fragrance, and Sarah says, “With Covet the idea was to create something that would be sought-after by women because it was so beautiful and desirable. They just had to have it and would stop at nothing to get it.”

Visit the Mediterranean

Is it me or does Catherine Zeta Jones seem to get more beautiful with age? She is currently the face of Elizabeth Arden’s perfume Mediterranean, a light and elegant fragrance with hints of florals, Mediterranean fruits and woods. It is beautifully presented in an elegant ocean blue bottle, a sophisticated representation of this warm, joyful and relaxed region. Key notes are Peach Nectar Sorbet, Sicilian Mandarin, Damask Plum, Radiant Wisteria, Star Magnolia, Madagascar Orchid, Sandalwood, Fluid Skin Musk and Golden Amber. Elizabeth Arden’s Mediterranean perfume is a beautiful and sensuous fragrance, just like its model.
