Celebrity Shape-Up: Kerry Katona and Isabella Hervey
Warrington’s finest, Kerry Katona, calls in the heavyweights in a bid to shape up – but what’s the real reason why she’s so desperate to shift the baby weight? As whispers of a reunion grow louder by the day, the Spice Girls are using some pretty unconventional dieting techniques in a bid to be the Slim Girls – we reveal all. Meanwhile, one former model and Lady unveils her new super-fit career.WHY KERRY’S SHIFTING THOSE POUNDS
A few weeks ago, the tabloids reported with glee that a beefy stranger had been seen coming and going from Kerry Katona’s house while husband Mark Croft was not at home. It turns out that this mystery man is in fact Kerry’s new personal trainer, who is helping the former Atomic Kitten get back into shape. Kerry hopes he will help her lose the baby weight she’s struggled to shift after giving birth to daughter Heidi. In a bid to motivate herself further and slim down to the size eight she hopes to be, Kerry is also making a fitness DVD with his help. The mum-of-three said, “I want to get down to a size eight or 10. I’m a lazy cow so the only way I’ll do it is if I’ve got somebody pushing me.” And it sounds like he’s doing just that if reports of a sweaty, exhausted Kerry running around her home town of Warrington (Cheshire) with a burly gentleman are true. Friends have also hinted that the real reason the I’m A Celebrity… winner wants to get back in shape is to help save her marriage, which has been rocked by a series of rows. It’s been rumoured that Kerry has found it tough to shift her baby weight and is afraid Mark doesn’t fancy her as much as he once did. Even though she isn’t a big fan of exercise, she feels it will do her self-confidence and her marriage wonders. If she can survive eating maggots in the jungle, then a few star jumps should be a walk – or a gentle jog – in the park. Maybe she’ll return to Marbella sporting a six-pack in her bikini!THE SLIM GIRLSWith the Spice Girls reunion now confirmed, the girls certainly seem to be keen to look the part when they return to the stage. Mel B has lost any remaining pregnancy weight and is looking very much the Yummy Mummy. Her diet has been such a success that the new mum now weighs less than she did before getting pregnant thanks to the little-known “broccoli diet” and gruelling gym workouts. Meanwhile, Geri is also stepping up her diet and exercise regime, desperate to get the perfect body – despite already being a tiny size eight. She’s reported to be following a punishing diet consisting almost entirely of fruit and veg and no food after 6pm – all in an attempt to get rid of what she considers to be her “bulging” (although in reality pretty flat) stomach. But both of them have a way to go before they reach Victoria Beckham’s bonkers dieting tricks. Posh is said to be on a diet so drastic that when she’s out for dinner, she sits nibbling on melon and sipping champagne while the rest of her entourage tuck into a three-course meal. When she does order a proper meal, she’s been spotted pushing her food around her plate instead of actually eating it. Emma Bunton is reported to have been already planning her post-pregnancy diet. No word yet from Mel C, but if they carry on like this, we won’t be able to see them when they return to the stage – there’s not much Girl Power in crazy diets!ISABELLA GETS PERSONALOnce best known as Victoria’s sister, Isabella Hervey has carved her own celebrity niche by mostly looking good in a bikini on Love Island and triumphing on The Games. So perhaps it’s no surprise that she’s reinventing herself once again – as a personal trainer. The former model, who once suffered from bulimia, exercises regularly and follows a healthy diet to maintain her slender size eight figure. She says, “I’ll have porridge for breakfast, with an apple and protein powder for energy. Then I’ll have a ham omelette with two slices of rye bread for lunch, and grilled chicken with wild rice and artichokes for dinner.” Between meals, she nibbles on guilt-free snacks such as goji berries, soya crisps and fruit, although she does allow herself the odd Chinese takeaway. She says of her new career, “I like helping women – and men – make the most of their bodies through exercise, rather than with faddy diets.” We couldn’t agree more, Isabella. Visit: www.soapandglorycosmetics.com for stockists. DID YOU KNOW?Researchers at Loughborough University found that people who ran before breakfast and pushed themselves physically were less hungry for two hours after eating than those who hadn’t exercised. Introduce a few sprints to your morning jog and you won’t want elevenses. DRINK DANDELION LEAF-TEA FOR OVERNIGHT WEIGHT LOSSIt might not taste like your standard cuppa, but if you suffer from fluid retention, this herbal infusion can produce amazing results, practically overnight, helping you to lose anything up to four pounds (nearly two kilos) while you sleep. AVOID STIMULANTS AND LOSE WEIGHTReckon that coffee habit is making you thin? Think again. Caffeine has a virtually identical effect on blood sugar as refined sugars and sweets. You might not be getting the calories but you are getting a huge burst of insulin with every cup, which can encourage your body to store fat. And because it creates the same high-low swing in energy as sugar, it is a notorious culprit in creating false hunger. Cut the stuff and once your initial caffeine-induced headache disappears (after about three days), you’ll feel hungry less often. Alternatively, cut your caffeine intake to 60mg a day or under for similar benefits… Red Bull contains 80mg a can, brewed coffee 60-120mg a cup, tea 45mg and green tea 20mg. AND FINALLY…Grapefruits and oranges are your metabolism’s best friends, as they keep your energy levels steady. But they’ve also got a trick up their sleeves – if you eat citrus fruits before bed, your stomach acids have to work twice as hard to digest them, meaning you burn off more calories while you’re asleep. Now that’s what we like – losing weight without even getting out of bed!
