Superstar singer Jamelia has hit out at celeb mums like Victoria Beckham, who snap back into shape in record time after having a baby. The mother-of-two slammed post-baby diets, calling them “terrible”, and revealed: “I have no desire to parade around going, ‘Look at me’, two weeks after giving birth. I’d rather be at home with my family.” Despite her outburst, the singer admits she is at her thinnest ever, having given birth to daughter Tiani just 11 months ago. “I’m embarrassed at the minute because I’m a size 8 – the smallest I’ve ever been. I’ve been trying to fatten myself up. I hate being skinny and I’m annoyed to have dropped lower than ever. I want my butt back.” Jamelia lost her baby-weight through breast feeding and admires celeb mums who are relaxed about their baby-bulges and get into shape gradually. “I look up to new mums like Penny Lancaster and Angelina Jolie, who have taken time to get back into shape. They’re concentrating on their health and that’s how people should do it.” I couldn’t agree more.
BRITNEY’S TUMMY-TUCK PLANS
She’s so keen to get back to her Toxic figure, that Britney’s contemplating getting a tummy-tuck to speed up the process. A source revealed: “She wants her figure back quickly and has already spoken to her doctor about getting a tummy-tuck.” Britney piled on the pounds during her first pregnancy, but was more careful this time round – ditching junk food for healthier options and keeping her body toned with lots of exercise. Although she’s reportedly already counting the calories and eagerly waiting to start training again (following her caesarean she’ll have to wait at least six weeks before she can start exercising properly), Britney has given herself a big incentive to get back into shape. The pop princess has splashed out on a whole new wardrobe of sexy, skinny clothes for her new body. A source close to the star said: “She went shopping for designer clothes for her post-baby body in the hope they will spur her on to lose weight.” With a designer wardrobe to look forward to I’m sure Britney will have no trouble getting her old figure back.
NICOLE SEEKS NUTRITIONAL ADVICE
Having admitted recently that she really is “too thin at the moment”, it looks like Nicole Richie is getting advice from professionals to help her put on weight. Although she has been trying to put on weight on her own, it hasn’t worked. She said: “I get stressed and I lose my appetite. But I do force myself to eat. I tried to put the weight on my way, eating burritos, but that wasn’t working, so I started seeing a nutritionist and a doctor.”
According to reports, the stick-thin 25-year-old has turned to experts at the Los Angeles DeOrio Medical Center for help. The clinic helps patients by using alternative medicines and treatments. A source said: “Nicole has been using alternative treatments to help her gain weight. She knows she’s too skinny and wants some shape back.”
Let’s hope Nicole gets her curves back soon and hits the headlines for something other than her weight – or lack of it!
SCARLETT SPEAKS OUT ABOUT HOLLYWOOD PRESSURES
Curvy Scarlett Johansson has spoken out about Hollywood putting pressure on actresses to be thin. But, despite the movie and fashion industries spawning a generation of skinny women, the Lost in Translation star isn’t going to conform.
Scarlett explained: “I try to stay fit and eat healthily, but I’m not anxious to starve myself and become unnaturally thin… I don’t find that look attractive on women and I don’t want to become part of that trend. It’s unhealthy and it puts too much pressure on women in general who are being fed this image of the ideal, which it’s not… I think America has become obsessed with dieting rather than focusing on eating well, exercising and living a healthy life. I don’t need to be skinny to be sexy.”
And she doesn’t need to be skinny to be a Hollywood success. Scarlett’s a great example of an actress whose curves haven’t hindered her career.
WHAT’S IN
SPRAYOLOGY DIETPOWER MOUTH SPRAY: Homeopathic compounds help to quell your
appetite. Pretty pricey though, at around €22 and the same again in shipping costs from the US. See www.blissworld.com
AERATED “SLIMMING” BREADS: Research shows that bread with more air looks bigger and fools us into thinking we’ve eaten more.
CHICKEN THIGHS: Slimmers usually choose breast, but thighs have 180 calories and
eight grams of fat per 100 grams, and are richer in energy-boosting iron. Check out Chez
Nester at the Cristamar for the best chicken in Marbella.
WHAT’S OUT
CELSIUS COLA: Claims to boost your metabolism because it contains green tea extracts but each bottle also contains 200 milligrams of caffeine, which is the same as five cups of proper green tea.
FOUR SLICES OF SLIMMING BREAD INSTEAD OF TWO: If you eat twice as much just because it’s good for you then all the benefits are undone.
CHICKEN DRUMSTICKS WITH THE SKIN: That’s 217 calories and 14 grams of fat per two
small drumsticks.
BURN BABY BURN
Melt away the calories, without actually exercising…
Zap that extra body fat while you veg on the couch by raising your resting metabolic rate. The higher your metabolic rate, the more fat you burn, even when you’re doing nothing.
Here are my top three new fat-burners:
1. Drink cold water. Your body needs to use over 100 calories of energy to warm two pints of cold water to core body temperature.
2. Open the curtains when you have your morning tea or coffee. Daylight kick-starts your morning metabolism.
3. Get an early night. Deep sleep promotes a faster metabolism, as that’s the time muscles gain tone and increase their metabolic capacity. Aim for seven to nine hours a night.
BRILL BREKKIE
If you think eating a breakfast bar is the same as having a bowl of cereal, think again. Of 100 bars analysed recently, almost a quarter were labelled “healthy”, yet contained a whacking six to 14 teaspoons of sugar per 100 grams! Try porridge instead – with no added sugar and calcium-rich milk, which help to burn fat.
KEEP IT SIMPLE!
Simplifying meals will help you lose weight, according to American scientists. Stick to a few flavours at each meal and you’ll eat less. It turns out that having lots of flavours in the same meal stimulates hunger and tempts you to eat more.
