SIX OF THE BEST CELEB DIET TIPS

The stars know what they’re talking about when it comes to keeping in shape, and we can reveal here all their top diet secrets.

1          HAVE A GOALJordan, 27, got back in shape in record time after the birth of her second son, Junior, on 13 June, because she only had three months to go before her wedding. She went from 10st 2lb (63kg) to 8st 2lb (51kg) by filling up on smoothies made from apples, celery and avocados for breakfast and lunch, and sticking to fish or chicken for dinner. She toned up in her home gym with her fiancé. “Peter and I are getting in shape together,” she said. “It keeps us motivated.” 2          EAT BEANS AND PULSESAnna Friel, 29, says her secret is to fill up while eating less. She eats, “loads of soups with beans, barley and pulses which fill you up. That means when I go out for dinner I don’t have to be too picky.” Even during her recent pregnancy, the star stuck to this regime and did yoga four times a week. After the birth, she went on her rowing machine and hired a personal trainer in order to regain her bikini body in three months for nude scenes in her next movie. 3          EAT A LARGE LUNCHModel Caprice, 33, who is 5ft 8in (1.72 metres) and weighs 8st 7lbs (54kg), says if she wants to lose a few pounds she eats her largest meal at lunchtime. “I have my biggest meal at lunchtime with carbs and then a light dinner before 5pm with mainly protein-rich food,” she explains. “Then I won’t eat after 5pm. It’s unbelievable how much weight I lose this way.” 4          STRIP OFF!Gwyneth Paltrow, 32 apparently eats in the nude in front of a mirror so she can “better observe how your body reacts to the food”. The actress, who does daily yoga workouts, also eats only macrobiotic food.

Melinda Messenger, 34, recently revealed that she does her stomach exercises with nothing on. “Then I can see the bits I’m not happy with wobbling and it spurs me on.”

5          BE AN ICE MAIDENSinger Mariah Carey, 35, pops an ice cube into her mouth when she’s tempted to snack in between meals, so she feels like she’s eating. Best of all, the body uses 40 calories to melt an ice cube, so she burns calories without consuming any. 6          TRY A HERBAL REMEDYDesperate Houswife Teri Hatcher, 40, apparently takes natural appetite suppressant Hoodia. It’s a herbal remedy used by the tribespeople of the Kalahari desert to stave off hunger pangs while out hunting. It’s now sold in health shops in the form of slimming pills.  WHO’S DOING WHAT?

GL IS THE NEW GIForget trying to beat hunger by controlling your blood-sugar levels with the Glycemic Index (GI). Glycemic Loading (GL) is where your diet should be at. GL reflects our glycemic response to food in normal portions, whereas GI values are based on unrealistic portions: i.e. carrots aren’t classed as low GI because their value is based on over 1lb (0.45kg) of them. To learn more, check out The GL Diet by Nigel Denby (John Blake Publishing, £7.99). CURRY FLAVOURA record boss recently sent his favourite “curry from Surrey” to singer Beyonce Knowles – all the way to America. If you fancy an Indian, I suggest walking to your local restaurant to burn off a few calories. Then opt for tandoori chicken with a small serving of basmati rice to avoid piling on the curry-house pounds. And remember: for every naan at 460 calories, you’ll have to take 7,000 steps to walk it off! EASY DOES ITIf you’re following a low-carb weight-loss plan, don’t wolf down unlimited amounts of bacon and cheese because they’re still high in fat – and calories from fat are the easiest to convert into, and store as, body fat. So if you’re doing a higher-protein plan, stick with lean chicken, turkey and fresh fish. GO NUTSThink peanut butter is fattening? Think again. A recent US study found that women who ate foods rich in monounsaturated fats – like peanut – lost 11 pounds (5kg) in just six weeks, and the weight stayed off. DID YOU KNOW? If you switch 1pt (0.47lt) of semi-skimmed milk a day for skimmed, you’ll save 28,105 cals a year – and shed 7lb! LOSE ITAs well as a healthy diet and regular exercise, some vitamin supplements can help you shed excess weight. Recent US research says B vits (6 and 12) play a role in regulating metabolism, while chromium helps with the insulin mechanism and thus affects the way the body deals with carbs. CREDIT: 30 minutes high impact aerobics = DEBIT: 1 packet of McVities Mini Cheddars (182 calories) AND FINALLY…Lack of sleep increases the hunger-triggering hormone insulin, as well as changing levels of appetite-controlling hormones leptin and ghrelin. Getting less than six hours a night can increase the risk of obesity. Try chamomile tea to help you nod off, or simply go to bed earlier.
