Health and Beauty - Summer Saviours

Summer Saviours

Words by Armand 29/07/2006

International make-up artist and glamour guru Armand takes us on a series of make-overs, giving advice on how to achieve the most out of your looks this summer. From the beautiful surroundings of Pangaea in Puerto Banús, Armand offers advice on must-have products and make-up tips to five women of various ages, skin types and complexions.  Armand’s second candidate was “make-up virgin” Claire, whose colouring and complexion are typically Australian. Protection is the key to summer skincare and there are also some fantastic ranges available for protecting your skin all year around. Claire didn’t really know which make-up products to use or how to wear them so she always opted for a simple, natural look. Armand decided to give her a contemporary smouldering look – perfect for a glamorous night out in Marbella during summer.
  1. PROTECTION: SISLEY ALL DAY ALL YEAR, SISLEY ÉMULSION ÉCOLOGIQUE & P20 BODY TIME RELEASE SUN FILTER
A key to this look is preparing the skin, especially for Claire who is well aware of the damaging effects of sun exposure. Protection from the sun is vital and I suggest using Sisley’s All Day All Year, which contains a release system that protects against UVA/UVB for up to eight hours (although something stronger is recommended for sunbathing) and allows just enough sunlight in to produce vitamin D in the skin. Sisley’s Émulsion Ecologique is a great product for anyone who has a pale or fatigued complexion or who has over-exposed their skin to the sun. It can be worn on its own or under moisturiser, and works as a multi-vitamin for the skin. P20 Body is a great product for beach babes who don’t want to keep re-applying. Protection lasts for 10 hours but must be used on dry skin.   2.  BASE: GIVENCHY SUBLIMINE FOUNDATION Claire has open pores so it is important to use an oil-free product: for example, Givenchy Sublimine Foundation, which contains an SPF and evened out Claire’s skin tone.  3. CONCEALER: YVES SAINT LAURENT TOUCH D’ECLAT Now available in different shades; use on the under eye area and, if required, around the chin and on the nose for instant light.
  1. CHEEKS AND COLOUR: BOBBI BROWN BRONZING POWDER (LIGHT)
A great product for a healthy summer glow. Apply to the apples of the cheeks with a touch of colour on the nose, cheeks and forehead.
  1. EYES: MAC EYESHADOW VELUXE PEARL IN FRESHWATER, ORIGINS UNDERWEAR FOR LASHES, CHRISTIAN DIOR DIORSHOW MASCARA
The look we worked on for Claire was something different and completely new. A contemporary look which is also smouldering needs vibrant, fresh colours with an urban hint. Colour for the eyes was provided by MAC who have an excellent range of bright, colourful eye-shadows. Build up the desired colour by layering the shadow. Lashes have to be emphasised for this glamorous look so use Origins’ Underwear for Lashes to build up sparse, fine lashes followed by Diorshow Waterproof Mascara.
  1. EYEBROWS: ORIGINS FILL IN THE BLANKS
Eyebrows need to be defined if you’re going to emphasise eyes. Origins have got the perfect answer with Fill in the Blanks, with a pencil at one end and a brush on the other.
  1. LIPS: SISLEY LIP PENCIL (NATURAL) AND CHANEL LIP GLOSS
Eyes should be the focus while lips remain more natural, minimalistic but shimmery. Use a natural toned lip liner going from the outside in, with slight shading on the lip. Apply gloss with a brush and choose a golden, bronze gloss to give the impression of liquid gold on the lips.
