The new season men\'s collection from Salvatore Ferragamo is inspired by the paintings of contemporary artist Elizabeth Peyton, who rose to fame in the 1990s for her stylised and idealised portraits of pop celebrities and the British monarchy.
Oasis brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher, Julian Casablancas from The Strokes, Pulp\'s Jarvis Cocker, Prince William and Harry, Keith Richards, John Lennon and Kurt Kobain were all subjects of her work, which is influenced by pop artists David Hockney and Andy Warhol Ferragamo takes its catwalk inspiration directly from Peyton\'s archetypal look: models with sharp boyish good looks, slightly naïve but confident and sophisticated. The collection itself is a contrast between classic British pieces in pastel colours and glam rock designs in golden tones and brighter colours.
Sharp pointed lapels and flannel trousers lend an ultra-chic look to pin-striped suits while velvet, corduroy and Prince of Wales tweed work as unusual and provocative fabrics. Patchwork bags pair up with classic British shoes; and cashmere scarves are worn academia-style. Ferragamo\'s rock and royalty look combines the most diverse elements of the wardrobe, fusing the natural combination of pop and rock with an air of nobility. Described by Ferragamo as "contemporary elegance", the collection reflects London fashion but with the sophistication and refinement of Italian design.
