MANGO

Mango has arrived on the catwalk with another headline-grabbing collection this season. Following a series of successful celebrity ad campaigns (including supermodel Claudia Schiffer in autumn 2005), actress Milla Jovovich is the latest star to be signed by the Spanish fashion house. According to a Mango spokesperson, the Ukrainian actress and model perfectly reflects the image of the Mango woman - very modern with personality and self-confidence.

This season, Mango presents an urban look with a distinctive '80s influence. Drainpipe trousers and leggings are the main attraction of a cosmopolitan and sophisticated style, and are must-have pieces during autumn-winter 2006. The silhouette is defined at the leg, where trousers are skin-tight in order to create a highly styled look, contrasting greatly with the oversized fits of jackets, coats, dresses and blouses in cotton, wool, knitwear and lamé.

Striped, leopard skin and check prints play a key role on leggings, and denin drainpipe trousers are adorned with zips and fantasy detailing. Chunky and narrow belts add the finishing touches, and include gold and silver buckles, patent leather chains and metal.

Five different collections include fashion's high points from the '50s to the present day. The rebellious youth culture of the '50s carefully brings in twists of the '80s in a collection aptly named The Rebels. Flared skirts (plain and patterned) with a defined waist are worn just above the knee, and bed jackets, short-sleeved cardigans and trench coats feature heavily.

The Studio 54 collection pays homage to Roy Halston - the man who dressed the most glamorous women from the end of the seventies. This includes evening wear which is both sophisticated and sensual, and suits with a masculine cut and soft silhouettes. The unmistakeable style of actress and model Lauren Hutton is brought to life in a collection of more formal items using plain suits in striped or checked fabrics, worn with '70s-style tops or blouses and masculine cardigans.

As a more casual base for any woman's wardrobe, Ali MacGraw's 1970s style inspires an uncomplicated look. Bermuda shorts, knee-length socks, three-quarter cardigans, and stripes or tie patterns in red, black, grey and blue form the basis of the collection. Finally, the 1980's new wave punk band The Clash is the inspiration behind a collection which balances elegance with hardcore image. Tight-fitting garments, such as cigarette trousers and leggings, are combined with pieces of great volume, while refined fabrics are fused with shiny and crushed leather.
