Funky and flamboyant label D Squared presented a collection of daring casual wear for summer. Heads turned when the fashion house made its debut on the catwalk this season, with each piece sauntering along the runway making temperatures soar.
The Wild West and a saloon atmosphere were the inspirations behind the show, reminiscent of an old cult movie or a hot summer's day on an Arizona ranch. The ultimate in western country living, the collection is dedicated to country girls who tame horses by day and dance the night away. But any city-living or surf babe will also love this tantalising collection.
Contrast is the name of the game for D Squared, and traditionally masculine tailoring is entangled with flirty femininity. In the words of the designers, this is clothing for "audacious pioneers girls who are in competition to find the best cowboy... feminine flirtations and sexy seduction - these are key elements to the D Squared collection".
Detailing, patterns and accessories are characteristically tailored for the "cheeky cow girl". Spurs and saddle accessories are used for shoes, bags and belts, and lassos turn into delicate bow details. Patchwork leather and apache fringe leather with native embroidery feature against tailored denim and crisp cotton. Fresh pastel colours are used for "Daisy Mae" fluid-flounced frocks in silk chiffon, linen and cotton voile.
Check and floral print bandanas and chunky belts with detailed buckles accentuate the neck and waist. Jeans and denim looks authentically soiled for a rough and dirty look which cleverly appears perfectly groomed. Cowboy hats and high riding stiletto boots add an extremely sexy touch. Colours are typically country: soil, wheat, maple leaf, gun powder, buttercup, milk, tangerine, rose and Arizona sky.
