New Seduction Demi Moore inspires Versace's autumn/winter collection

Words by 05/01/2006

Versace are "contemplating women from head to toe" in their autumn/winter collection - discovering new seduction points and changing the geography of women's wear. They have chosen Demi Moore as the star of their campaign, describing her as "a long-standing friend of the house who epitomises the potential women have today. Modern women know no barriers." Daywear looks are fitted at the waist before exploding into larger proportions at the neckline. Full lapels become shoulder width, and hoods or shawls frame the head to emphasise a new erogenous zone. Coats and jackets feature classic couture tailoring with straight-fitted arms and narrow cuffs that widen into kimono sleeves in military cloth, compressed velvet or traditional men's wear fabrics.
The same applies to the cuts and dimensions of leather and fur, culminating in a sable fur coat, lined in reversible sheared mink and chocolate-colored python. For knee-length skirts in knits, the necklines become soft and sinuous with a special finishing effect of raw-edged strips. The color palette goes from gray to chocolate and from anthracite to deep turquoise or acid green, mixed exclusively in a new print featuring intertwined snake skins.
For the evening, the rules are bent and the frothy volumes fall to the hemlines of long iridescent chiffon dresses, with fringes, crystals and gleaming embroidery.
Accessories complete the look, in all the glamorous materials favored by the house: sheared mink, ponyskin printed with Medusa surrounded by a raised Greek key design, velvet croc print, or an exclusive triple-weave of leather, patent leather and crocodile. Bags conjure up waves joined together by chains; and the line of shoes, sandals and boots all reflect the same research into proportion that are consistent throughout the collection.
