Fashion Flair Revolutionary styles in leather

Words by Jitrois 01/06/2007

Jean Claude Jitrois first began making clothes when creating costumes for disabled children at a hospital in France, and it was from this experience that he learned he had a great talent and passion for fashion. Success came quickly, with the opening of his first boutique in Nice in 1976. His designs were widely admired; and his first piece was designed for Stéphanie of Monaco. In 1981 he launched his first leather line J3, which brought further success and enabled him to open a boutique on the famous Rue Faubourg Saint Honoré alongside other famous fashion houses.

From this moment, his designs became exclusive and highly sought after by celebrities and royalty alike. He has since dressed some of the most beautiful women in the world, including Kate Moss, Gisele, Monica Belluci and Naomi Campbell; and his creations have twice been used in films.

He revolutionised the leather garment industry with the launch of Jean Claude Jitrois: le cuir stretch, the first stretch leather garments produced in the world. He was also the first to use python and kangaroo, while maintaining his designs’ cutting edge look. His boutiques offer a highly personal service to all clients and an alteration service on all garments.

The Jitrois style is sexy yet stylish and this can be seen in the latest collection of fabulous designs. The sleek and edgy theme for the 2007-08 autumn collection is “pin-up couture”, with glamour underlined by arched waists and corseted belts. The stretch leather models the body and lengthens the legs – with short cuts, chic and relaxed. Black is a key element in the collection, mixed with discerning colours: fine anthracite, green… Swarovski crystals bring a touch of luminosity to the skirts and dresses; while this seam-free leggings are this season’s main innovation.

His flagship store in Puerto Banús is truly original in style, with plunging cylinders falling down from the ceiling, polished black mirrors and luxurious leather pouffes. Black is the chief colour in the boutiques, enabling the clothes to be shown like the works of art they are.
