Miami-based band Wanton Soup were being touted as "the next big thing" when it all fell apart. "Things got way out of touch for us musically, too many hands in the pot, and I just left and moved to Europe," recalls singer-guitarist Delrico, who had musical contacts with such luminaries as Madonna, Paul McCartney, Blonde, Julian Lennon and Julian Marley.
A few months later, settled in Marbella with his family, he met Les Nemes (formerly of Haircut 100) and together they had aspirations to become "super funk rock heroes" with their band Starfly. Unfortunately, those plans also come to fruition after they recruited keyboardist Mike Dickinson to "fatten up" the band, realised there was now more of a soul feel to their funk-rock songs and changed the name to Crusher Jones - chosen after Delrico checked out a Frank Zappa CD lying around the house (Sheik Yerbouti) and was drawn to the title of one of the songs, Jones Crusher.
The other band members are Chris James (bass and vocals) and Paul Slav (drums), and they have just released their debut album, Crusher Jones - "a very funky pop rock hip hop house groove that will make you feel good when driving down the highway".
Delrico and the band are already promoting the CD in southern Europe and planning a tour, but in the meantime Costa del Sol music lovers have the chance of catching them at various venues along the Coast.
